This very flexible short course is for beginners who have no experience with clay or who have learnt basic techniques and want to develop further, and also for intermediates who have some experience.
If you are a very beginner you will start by trying a few varieties of clay to learn their different characteristics. Based on this you will learn varied shaping methods each week: pinching, coiling, slab-building and throwing.
We will also go into a bit about surface decoration using sculpting tools, found objects and slips. On the last day of the course, we glaze all the pieces we made.
If you have some experience with clay you can go on the wheel or work at the table hand-building. You'd like to bring your ideas, projects or maybe you'd like to focus on improving certain skills. I will be available for advice, help and demonstrations as you wish!
The course will run every Saturday morning for 3 hrs between 1000 and 1300, for 5 weeks starting 12th January 2019. It is for a small group of only 6 people and is aiming to be a casual and creative atmosphere.
Please come in with a notebook if you'd like to record your processes, which is very important to repeat the same result!
The course fee does NOT include material and firing costs. The charge for this is small and roughly works out a £1.50 a mug
