This course is aimed at those who are new to pottery or have a little experience.
In this 12 week class where you will learn the basics of pottery including wedging, throwing simple shapes on the pottery wheel, Hand building techniques such as coiling and constructing pots using slabs of clay as well as adding colour and pattern to your ceramics using slip and glaze.
This course is perfect for those who are interested in working in clay and want to gain experience in different techniques. Once you have some experience with these techniques then you will come to the sessions with a small project or technique you might want to work on. This could be making a set of mugs or a large vase or improving your throwing. it is completely up to you but i will be there for help and advice on how to go about it.
This course fee does NOT include materials and firing. The charge for this is small and roughly works out a £1.50 a mug.
This is a small course of six people so everyone will get one to one attention
Day 1: 20th March / wedging and making a slab plate
Day 2: 27th March / centering and throwing a cylinder on the pottery wheel.
Day 3: 3rd April / turning cylinder and making handles
One week off
Day 4: 17th April throwing a bowl shape. hand building
Day 5: 24th April making a coil pot and slip decoration
Day 6: 1st May glazing work so far
Day 7: 8th May We will look and discuss your individual projects.
Day 8 - 12: 15th May - 12th June self directed project.
